“Team spirit” is a concept that is useful to more than just sports teams. It can and should be used in the corporate environment to create an “esprit de corps,” which is French for team spirit. This team spirit, when enhanced amongst the workers, increases productivity and reduces employee turnover.

The Power of Group Effort

When team members can temporarily put aside personal feelings for the benefit of a larger group, the results can be extraordinary.

Dynamic leaders improve performance with warranted praise and by encouraging innovative ideas. A focus on strategic efforts to help each person understand his or her part in the overall success of the organization is very powerful. Good managers increase focus on the strategic goals by coaching and mentoring individuals to do a better job with results for increased effort identified and rewarded.

Company Softball Teams

Softball is a great version of American baseball. It uses a larger, softer ball than regular baseball that is easier to see, hit and catch. Moreover, the pitcher throws the pitch using an underhand method, which means the ball arrives at a lower speed when passing over the plate. Again, this makes it easier to hit the ball by the batter.

Competition vs. Non-Compete Styles

If there is a natural division in the company that can be put up in competition against each other, such as the East Coast sales division versus the West Coast sales division, then the company’s softball league can be organized on a competitive basis. This works because the two geographical divisions are separated by territory and their overall sales figures are already a national competition.

If the organization does not have easy-to-determine competitive lines, then the softball games can be held without scoring, and then reward points given for things like hitting a ball or catching a ball.  Even, reward points can be given for the goof-ups, such as the most-missed catches or the most-missed hits. The silliness of these games is what makes them fun for all.

Team Uniforms

The use of team uniforms, including all players wearing a PTBA® baseball cap, increases the team spirit. When members go on the field to play and recognize the other members of their team, this begins to build up the team spirit. With enough of this experience, the team spirit that is generated will positively influence the workspace.

Fan Support

For those company employees, who do not want to be on the sports team and prefer to be spectators; they should also wear a PTBA® baseball cap to show their support and involvement in the game, their team, and their delight with the team spirit.
